The Power of Love
Ma Chao's immeasurable love for his father and brothers motivated him to conquer Changan from the much more powerful Cao Cao who murdered his family in order to avenge them. An extraordinary feat which Zhuge Liang did not achieve with more troops, generals and supplies. However without the aid of a good advisor, he fell into the enemy plot's and was subsequently defeated.

Another dramatic achievement is the land mass he conquered using his limited troops and supplies which he mobilized within a short period of time in Xiliang. At his peak, Ma Chao's territory is 2-3 times larger than Liu Bei's!
